Temporary Ferry Service Between Providence And Bristol Announced

Due to the closure of the western lanes of the Washington Bridge, a temporary ferry service is set to begin trips between Providence and Bristol this morning.

Monday's initial sailings were called off due to the storm.

Three ferries from SeaStreak, Rhode Island Fast Ferry and the Block Island Ferry will dock at India Street in Providence and the State Street dock in Bristol.

They will pick up and drop off passengers every 30 minutes between 6 am and 7 pm.

Meantime, State officials have announced that an independent firm has been hired to do a forensic evaluation of the bridge in the aftermath of photos released that showed structural issues.
