Windfarm Plans Hit Snag With Siting Board

A commercial offshore wind farm planned for Southern New England is running into difficulties.

It appears The Rhode Island Energy Siting Board will ask Mayflower Wind to demonstrate in a timely manner why the board should continue reviewing the project's plan to bury cables, since the company has apparently admitted to financial issues.

The cables would run up the Sakonnet River to the former Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset, Massachusetts.

Mayflower, is a joint venture between Shell New Energies and Ocean Winds North America, is promising a wind farm that can generate enough power for about one-million homes.
