Senate Set To Vote On Abortion Rights Bill

(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island Senate is scheduled to vote today on the Reproductive Privacy Act.The bill's sponsors say it codifies into state law the protections in Roe v. Wade and related court decisions, but opponents including the Providence Catholic Diocese and Rhode Island Right to Life have compared the bill to legislation in New York passed earlier this year, which they say constitutes an extreme expansion of abortion rights. The vote is scheduled during the Senate's regular session, which will begin at 4 p.m. at the State House.
