Louisiana Officials Make An Arrest In Connection To Black Church Fires

A suspect is under arrest in connection to the recent string of fires in Louisiana – there were three fires in ten days at historically Black churches in the state. According to reports, police have arrested 21-year-old Holden Matthews– the son of a Saint Landry Parish Deputy.

While a news conference has been scheduled for 10am local time this morning to update the media on the case, it’s worth noting now that various sources are saying that Matthews’ father is the one who figured things out – and turned his son in. Meanwhile, the community is celebrating the news – and officials are crediting investigators for their efforts.

“A suspect has been identified in connection with the three church burnings in Opelousas, Louisiana, and is in state custody,” US Attorney David Joseph says in a statement. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office, ATF, and FBI are working with state and local law enforcement and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the victims and those St. Landry Parish residents affected by these despicable acts.”

  • A GoFundMe account has been created for those wishing to give to the churches as they work to rebuild. You can find that information HERE.
