National Grid Suspends Gas Service For Newport County

(Newport, RI)  --  An apparent low-pressure gas situation is leading to over seven-thousand homes on Aquidneck Island going without heat during the coldest stretch of the year so far.  National Grid reported Monday night that it was suspending the service for customers, mostly in the city of Newport, due to a transmission supply issue from the utility's natural gas supplier.  National Grid says it expects to deploy over a thousand workers and support personnel to assist in the restoration effort.  The company says it does not know how long the interruption will last but that it will likely take "multiple days".
